Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay will need some time before he can put Sunday’s 13-3 loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII behind him.

“I’m almost numb,” McVay said after the loss, per NFL reporter Ed Werder. “They did great job, but it was mostly result of me doing a poor job calling plays and not giving us a chance to win. I don’t know how you ever get over this.”
As ESPN Stats & Info pointed out, the Los Angeles offense had a tough time getting anything going all night, recording just 260 yards of total offense:

Per ESPN Stats & Info, the Rams joined the 1971 Miami Dolphins (Super Bowl VI) as the only teams in Super Bowl history to fail to score a touchdown in the title game.
While many will point fingers at quarterback Jared Goff (19-of-38, 229 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception) and the offense, McVay was willing to shoulder the responsibility for the loss.

“Definitely, I got outcoached,” McVay admitted, per ESPN Los Angeles.
Of course, there’s no shame in being outcoached by someone of Bill Belichick’s stature. Belichick owns the NFL records for most career Super Bowl appearances by a head coach (nine) and most Super Bowl victories by a head coach (six). He also has a pair of rings from his time as the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants.
Meanwhile, at 33 years old, McVay became the youngest head coach in Super Bowl history.
Just two years into his head coaching career, McVay is already being recognized as one of the best offensive minds in all of football. After all, he has led the Rams to a 24-8 record and two NFC West titles in his first two years on the job. And now he already has a Super Bowl appearance on his resume after this postseason run.
